Disneyland Paris

Whether it’s an on-site, luxury Disney resort you’re wanting, or something a little more low-key while you explore the parks, we’ve covered all budgets while considering location, facilities and theming (yes, the Disney theming shouldn’t be missed).

Located around 40 minutes away from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Disneyland Paris is out of the city centre, in the suburb of Marne-la-Vallee. It is easily accessible via train and car, however most nearby hotels offer free shuttle bus services, and some are even within walking distance of the parks… Although after a full day stomping around Disney, it may be more of a crawl back to your bed on an evening. Your step count will be through the roof!

All official Disney hotels come with the added perk of early entry into the parks, giving you extra time to enjoy the magic before the crowds arrive. Trust us, any extra time you can get your hands on to explore the beauty of this place really is priceless, but of course, staying at an official Disney hotel is reflected in the price.

To help you plan a trip, we've reached out to the experts - trusted ‘Disney adults’ who have shared their endless tips and tricks, and filled us in on the best places to stay. We’ve considered a variety of budgets, researched a range of requirements and evaluated all locations to ensure you get the best from your stay for you and your family.

After all, it’s not a trip you make off the cuff - a lot of planning and a lot of saving goes into visiting Disneyland Paris, so we understand there’s plenty to consider when choosing where to stay.

"The Newport Bay is my favourite. The food is gorgeous, much nicer than the other hotels. Inventions is really lovely, met all the characters, gorgeous food and really pretty restaurant."

Our verdict

This one is a real treat, and deserves a place on everyone’s bucket list. Located well within walking distance to the parks (around 10-15 minutes), it has a beautiful nautical theme running throughout the property, with lots of nods to the classic Steamboat Willie, and some rooms offering a view of the large Lake Disney.

As an official Disney resort, guests here can meet characters on-site as well as benefit from early entry into the parks. Staying at a Disney hotel is like being in a bubble, it’s a fully immersive experience making the magic last around the clock and that’s certainly what you can expect at Newport Bay.

The hotel offers two heated swimming pools if you fancy a dip to break up your time in the parks, a 24 hour fitness centre if the 15,000 steps a day don’t quite cut it for you, or a hot tub and sauna if you prefer to relax at the end of a long day exploring. Free parking and charging stations for electric cars are also available on property.

This hotel is a slice of luxury with a high end budget, so bear this in mind when considering where to stay. There’s plenty more official Disney resorts offering some of the same perks at a fraction of the cost.

“We stayed in the Santa Fe and got a meal plan which was great for us with 4 DC. Went to Paris for a whole day too. Loved the extra park hour and free transport to and from the parks."

Our verdict

Start your engines! Considered the most budget friendly Disney resort, the Santa Fe hotel’s theme is based on Disney and Pixar’s Cars.

You’ll be able to grab a selfie with Mickey and pals before hitting the parks, as the characters visit the hotel lobby each morning. Or if you’d prefer to get to Disneyland early, you can benefit from the early access perk of staying in a Disney hotel.

Recharge your batteries at the end of the day in bright and colourful bedrooms decorated with all things Cars - a real hit with the little ones! This hotel is located within walking distance of the park's entrance and also offers a free shuttle service.

“Stayed at Vienna Dream Castle Hotel, cheaper and nice with a quick free shuttle to the park."

Our verdict

Located just off site, this option isn’t an official Disney resort, meaning there’s no character meets on-site or extra magic hours to enjoy. But don’t let this deter you.

This hotel offers a free of charge shuttle bus service to and from the parks all day, running from around an hour before the park opens each day, right up until midnight. These buses run every 20 minutes meaning it’s incredibly accessible and only around a 5-10 minute bus journey.

Offering a bed and breakfast service, this is a great find. Sourcing breakfast in theme parks can be tasking, and although there’s lots of options in the RER train station (located right outside the Disneyland entrance) for things like coffee, croissants and snacks, it’s an added expense plus, that’s priceless time that could be spent soaking up the magic in the parks or queuing for your favourite ride. If bed and breakfast is an option at your chosen hotel, we absolutely recommend you choose it.

"Marvel is the newest (hotel) (and the most expensive currently open) but it is the closest to the park."

Our verdict

Here’s one for the superhero fans. The theming in this hotel is indescribable, it really is 10/10. Previously known as Hotel New York, Disney has refurbished the hotel to transport you into a real life Marvel movie.

Re-Opening earlier this year and surrounded by scenes from Spiderman, plus numerous other Marvel favourites, it’s located just a 10 minute walk from the park entrance. With Disney Village on its doorstep, you can find plenty of places to eat such as Annette’s Diner, Earl of Sandwich, Rainforest Cafe and the good old Golden Arches of McDonalds.

Again, as a Disney resort, you can enjoy the perk of early park entry, as well as enjoying the hotel's amazing cocktail bar & on-site restaurant to sample some gorgeous foods - don’t be thinking you’ll need to settle for your standard theme park fodder at Disneyland!

“Cheyenne is Toy Story themed with a cow skin bedspread and wallpaper with Woody on it. The kids loved both rooms and were super excited at all the little themed touches."

Our verdict

Kick back with Woody and Jessie in this lively, wild-west themed hotel. Located around a 20 minute walk from the parks, you can also enjoy use of the free shuttle services to save your energy for once you’re inside Disneyland.

After a long day enjoying the rides and soaking up the parades, hit the hay in the air-conditioned rooms full to the brim with Toy Story theming. For extra practicality, choose a “Woody’s roundup” standard room to be located closer to the hotel facilities.

Classed as a more budget friendly Disney resort, you can still enjoy the perks of extra magic time without the quite so premium price tags that come with other Disney hotels.

“I would definitely recommend especially with younger children when hotel stays can be stressful. Also being able to get away from Disney for a while can be nice!”

Our verdict

This offers an all new holiday experience, just minutes away from Disneyland Paris. Les Village Nature offers a complete change of scenery from the Disney bubble you’ll live in during your time at the parks.

With great swimming facilities and lots of on-site amenities, it offers some fantastic alternatives if you’d prefer to balance your Disney trip with some other activists such as exploring their forest, visiting the on-site farm and much, much more.

A charming rural retreat surrounded by greenery, it’s located just 15 minutes away from Disneyland by car. Even though this is classed as an official Disney resort, it doesn’t offer free shuttle services, nor is it within walking distance, so bear in mind you would need to source your own transport to and from the parks with this accommodation.

“I stayed at the Explorers Hotel on a trip to Disneyland as a kid. It was amazing and I loved it just as much as the actual parks. The pirates theme, especially in the swimming pool/water area is really good!”

Our verdict

Just 1.2 miles from Disneyland Paris, the Explorers Hotel is a great family-oriented hotel offering a free shuttle service to and from the parks, as well as an incredible indoor swimming area to enjoy when you’re not busy hanging out with Mickey and his pals.

Family rooms that can accommodate up to six guests are available at Explorers Hotel meaning there’s no need for larger families to spend money on more than one hotel room which makes a nice change!

A continental buffet style breakfast is included, or you can upgrade to a full English if you’re missing those home comforts to prepare you for a full day perusing the parks.

8
Best self-catering Disney hotel
Our verdict

If you prefer self-catering when travelling with kids, this could be a great fit for your family. Stay City Marne-la-Vallee offers apartments and villas complete with fully equipped kitchens, comfortable living spaces and home comforts such as flat screen TV’s for some down time.

This is a great option for a little more space as opposed to bunking together in a hotel room. With the kitchen facilities, you can take advantage of preparing your own lunches and snacks to take into the parks. Not only is this a great money saving hack, but also time which can be better spent enjoying your must do rides or catching a show instead of waiting in line for some snacks to keep the kids energised and happy!

With an on-site heated pool, a nearby golf course and a games room, there’s plenty to do if you want to take a break from the Disney fun.

9
Best unofficial resort
Our verdict

A boutique hotel offering the perfect location to discover the magic of Disney. This hotel hosts 152 spacious rooms, including the “XL Family Room” for up to eight guests! A fantastic find for bigger groups.

This hotel offers a great location just a five minute drive from Disneyland Paris, but equally provides a break from the non-stop Disney bubble which some guests may welcome.

Staying here you can make use of the on-site car park or benefit from the free shuttle service to and from the Disney parks, too.

"We stayed at an Air BnB in Marne Le Valle and took the train to the park, really quick and easy, the train station is at the gates. We got weekly passes on the train really reasonably and used them to spend some time in Paris too."

Our verdict

Last but by no means least, if you prefer the sound of something more low key to dip your toe into Disney instead of experiencing the round the clock magic at one of its resorts, renting a local Airbnb property could be for you.

With plenty of local accommodation options on the site, properties sleep from two people up to larger groups of 10 plus, meaning you’ll be sure to find somewhere perfect for your travel group.

Make the most of the facilities with your own kitchen, and enjoy the space these properties offer in comparison to a family hotel room in most resorts.

One thing to bear in mind when choosing an option like this is transport. Free shuttle services are not available so sourcing your own method of getting to and from the Disney parks will be something you’ll need to think about. Renting a car isn’t essential when visiting Disneyland Paris but may be something to consider here.

How much does it cost for a family of four to go to Disneyland Paris?

Now we can’t deny, as memorable and magical as these trips are, Disneyland isn’t quite so friendly on the bank account. Prices really can vary depending where you choose to stay, and what time of year you travel.

Consider school holidays, what transport to use (Disneyland is easily accessible via plane, car and Eurostar), and staying on or offsite to help stay within your budget. January is the cheapest month to visit. Of course it’s not the best month weather wise, so bear this in mind!

Is it worth staying in Disneyland Paris itself?

Staying onsite will offer you some real Disney perks. Meeting the characters at your resort, early access to the parks and often a discount at the Disney stores. The benefits really are special and allow you to be fully immersed into the world of Disney magic.

Having said that, it’s not essential. The nearby, unofficial properties on offer will allow you to have an equally gorgeous trip at a substantially lower price, so don’t feel pressured to stay on-site.

What is the best month to visit Disneyland Paris?

Our Disney experts have visited at different times throughout the year, and they recommended booking during April and May, or November and December.

Easter time *should* allow you to enjoy Disneyland Paris in some beautiful weather. There’s nothing like walking down Mainstreet USA and seeing that castle under the gorgeous sun.

And Christmas at Disney… Well, that deserves a feature all on its own! It’s a truly magical place that has a way of somehow making you feel like you’re home, so no matter what time of year you choose to visit, you’re sure to make memories to cherish for a lifetime.

How we chose our recommendations

When it comes to holidays, convenience is key, especially if you have toddlers and young children. Therefore, finding the best Disneyland Paris hotel to stay in with the kids was critical.

First, we consulted our Mumsnet forums to find out what real parents were recommending to others seeking advice on where to stay. Taking these suggestions, we then compared flight time, proximity to Disneyland Paris, transport options, family-friendly activities available, entertainment, facilities and room options to hone down this list of recommendations.

We also examined reviews on sites like Booking.com and TripAdvisor, which helped us to determine which hotels to include in this list.
